Abstract

In the observation in class IX C SMPN 16 Yogyakarta motivation, participation and learning achievement IPS needs to be improved. The purpose of this study was to determine the effort to increase the motivation, participation and learning achievement IPS by using STAD model learning Grade IX C Junior High School 16 Yogyakarta in academic year 2014/1015. This study uses a classroom action research in two cycles. The results showed that the learning model STAD can increase learning motivation of 66.34% (pre-cycle) to 88.24 (first cycle) and increased to 88.56% (second cycle). The increase also occurred in student learning participation of 64.71% (pre-cycle) to 76.47 (cycle I) and 80.39 (second cycle) while student achievement has increased from 61.76% (pre-cycle) to 82.35 % (first cycle) and then became 85.29% (second cycle), although not optimal, and then over the increase was higher in the second cycle. Increased motivation, participation and optimal performance in this second cycle, so it supports the learning process quality.
