Abstract

Contextual and competency-based approach is one of The ways to optimize the teaching of Indonesian language and literature. The principle of that approach has become one of the bases of the curriculum 2006. caracteristics of the contextual approach enable us to achieve the quality teaching and may increase the student achievements in learning the language and literature. Contextual and competency-based approach can be achieved by appliying seven strategies: constructivism, inquiri, questioning, learning society, modeling,and reflecting and authentical assesment.
